Team Tee Trends Featuring Sharp Dressed Fan

To say last year when my Chicago Cubs won the World Series was amazing and historic is an understatement. This season has had a sense of up and down, but with continued excitement and fun. So with a 2 game lead in their division, they need to keep playing hard and with heart like they have been to keep that lead. A few things for them to keep their lead are to stop moving around the line up (slowly getting better with that), get the bullpen’s confidence up and get Willson Contreras off the DL, which thankfully happened yesterday before game 1 with the Mets. His energy and talent are electric and contagious. Here is to great hitting & pitching throughout the rest of the season.

cb8af4ffba270acdd9d6c3431fc29a63

September baseball is going to continue being amazing and I believe in the Cubs to keep that Central Division lead. Go Cubs Go ! One of the many things I love about baseball is the love and loyalty to one’s team. The fun comroderity and competition that comes with family and friends creates such joy and an added bonus to an already amazing game. It is one big family when it comes down to it and brings us to together.

To celebrate September baseball for my Cubs, I thought I would channel some of my favorite fashion trends of the moment. Two of my favorite things are fashion and sports. I get to combined them everyday and this series with the Mets is no different in doing that. The trends I have incorporated are a vintage graphic tee and the color of power red or Cubbie red as I like to call it.

This vintage tee has been passed around throughout my family, which of course I had to pair it with my Cubbie power red Mary Janes by Nine West along with my favorite high waisted jeans. Of course I had to add a vintage Cubs hat (thanks Dad) as well as a Cubbie power red lip ! Here is to continued ensembles with a flair for sports and fashion this September baseball season representing my favorite team 🙂

As I mentioned before what I love about baseball is that it brings us all together and this collaboration rains true to that. Sharp Dressed Fan and I have collaborated for the Cubs vs Mets series, which concludes tonight. It was fun for us both to style and represent our teams with our perspective vintage tees. Below is her chic account of styling for her New York Mets.

Sharp Dressed Fan Knows How to Represent Her New York Mets

new-york-mets

So admittedly, my Mets aren’t doing nearly as well as the Cubbies this season, but I still love ’em! Even after living out here in California for 10+ years, I still follow the Metsies religiously, and listen to, or watch, about 95% of the games. Sundays are especially fun, as we’ve created a group of loyalists in LA , and gather to watch, and drink through, the games together. While the Yankees may claim more fans, the New Yorkers who bleed orange and blue are absolute die-hards, and even the first to form a traveling fan club (with their own apparel line!)

IMG_5272.JPG

The look I’ve put together for this Mets v. Cubs series is based on two major trends this year: the white logo tee, and the pleated midi skirt. The versatility of the tee knows no bounds, but, as it’s still a new-again trend, it can be more difficult to find a crew neck for women. My choice is actually a vintage Mets tee from the innaugural MLB Victoria’s Secret Pink line, but I’ve linked to another excellent option below in a child’s size. Don’t be afraid to try sizes outside your range – a kids L or XL makes a close match for a women’s S or M most times. My cobalt skirt was a fab clearance find at Forever21 (who can say no to a $6 skirt?!) and I’ve linked to an even lovlier one from Anthropologie, but they’re so popular at the moment, that you can find one in any price range. My gold heels can easily be swapped out for a more reasonable day-shoe, like the block heel alternatives I’ve linked to, but be creative! The best part about dressing up a tee is that there is no wrong answer, just as long as your repping your team.

Dream A Little Dream Tonight

“Inspiration is finding something that excites you.” ~Connie Smith

These stairs in Silverlake got me thinking about what I am passionate about. My two passions in life I can’t do without are sports and fashion. It seems more and more that these 2 loves of mine are colliding, which is so exciting. What has allowed these two worlds to collide are my lifestyle blog and pr career.

IMG_1885

My passion for both grows everyday. My blog allows me to embrace both loves and not having to choose between the two is such a joy and dream.

Each day I love finding ways to continuously have sports and fashion in my professional life and personal life. I am sure after I shot on the rainbow stairs, I went home changed into my sports gear and watched some baseball and/or golf. Even as I type up this post, I am watching my Chicago Cubs take on the Cincinnati Reds.

Something I still struggle with is trying to fullfill both sides of me (fashion girl & sports fanatic), but the more I focus on my blogging and honing in on my pr career it seems my two passions come together.

IMG_6601

Being at the rainbow stairs and some moments since then, I have realized that I don’t have to choose between the two. For y’all too, if you have multiple passions in life, don’t get discouraged about feeling like you have to choose. You can find ways to pursue them both or even mold them together.

Each day, I am so grateful that everyone around me is so supportive, allow me to be me and pursue what I love. Don’t let others get in your way of what you are passionate about , where there is a will there is a way.

I love fashion and I love all things sports. They will both always be a part of all aspects in my life. I am so grateful and excited about where they both will take me!

P.S. What are your loves & passions in life ?

Another note, I find that when trying to focus on my passions listening to my favorites helps me to not lose track of what I love.

Yes Pleases of the Week

“I don’t believe in guilty pleasures. If you enjoy something there is nothing guilty about it.” ~Busy Phillips

It is that time of the week again where I share my obsessions of the week ala my Yes Pleases. This has become one of my favorite series to write because it allows me to just delve into what I am really loving and sharing it with y’all in hopes it inspires 🙂 I also love showcasing amazing brands and items to show while also supporting others who are passionate about what they do.

Let’s Go ! Yes Pleases for the week are under way !!

Yes Please #1: MLB TV

MLB TV is amazing and not only lets me watch all the Chicago Cubs games, but it keeps me intuned with the other teams that are always intriguing. I wouldn’t survive baseball season without MLB TV. I love that I can get it through an app as well. Yes Please to MLB TV always !

Yes Please #2: Pop Sockets

I first found out about Pop Sockets at an event I ran last year and was very enamored with them right away. I just recently purchased one and I love it. My palm tree Pop Socket is not only a fun accessory, but it is another way to keep a hold of my phone and to take photos without dropping it ( been there ). So I say Yes Please to this trend !

Yes Please #3: Museum of Ice Cream

I have to say I loved the Museum of Ice Cream not just because of the tasty treats, awesome sprinkle pool or gummi bears everywhere, but in large part because I got to have so much fun with my mom. She is a lover/connoisseur of ice cream and she has passed it on to me, thanks Mom ! We had a ball and I say Yes Please to that !

Yes Please #4: Perfect Formula‘s Pink Gel Coat

This is my new favorite nail product. It is great for nail health along with an added flare for nail accessorizing. It works great, looks great and I can already see a difference. So yay and Yes Please !

Yes Please #5: Ice Cream Cone TOMS

I first got my Ice Cream Cone TOMS when I knew I was going to the Museum of Ice Cream and I am so happy I did. Not only did I wear them to the museum, but I will continue to pair them with my outfits. They are fun and delicious, which is what I love in my fashion and is a big Yes Please !

So much fun and deliciousness this week, thank y’all for coming on over ! See y’all next week !!

Yes Please #1: Fireworks Show

Fireworks have always been one of my favorite things about the 4th of July. This 4th of July, I was blessed to see 5 shows at once and 2 on the way home. I had so much fun watching with my parents. Fireworks will always be a big yes please ! I look forward to the next 4th of July show or hey may be seeing them even sooner at a baseball game 🙂

Yes Please #2: Laura Mercier Almond Coconut Hand Creme

I was just introduced to this creme by Laura Mercier recently in a goodie bag I won (Thanks to Sydne Summer) and I cannot leave home without it. It keeps my hands continuously smooth and hydrated all while smelling like a hint of almond and coconut, which is always a plus.

Yes Please #3: T&J Designs Sunnies

T&J Designs is based in Chicago and I love everything they have. It is definitely hard to resist buying everything. Currently, I am all about the reflective sunnies I got from them. They protect, are super fun & stylish and go with everything. I will for sure be rocking them all summer long and beyond.

Yes Please #4: 47 Brand Chicago Cubs Hat

This hat from 47 Brand that I picked up from Wrigleyville Sports has become an every day staple ever since. It represents my style and love for my Chicago Cubs, which I will continue rocking in my wardrobe because of these to factors 🙂

Yes Please #5: Skin Owl Eye Creme

I came across Skin Owl at an event I recently attended. I was so excited when I got a Skin Owl product in my goodie bag. It was their eye concentrate (cream) and I love the feel and moisture it gives under my eyes. It is smooth, which is perfect for applying my makeup on top. It is a natural product and the scent is subtle, which are 2 things I look for in skincare products these days. Skin Owl is a big Yes Please !

Fireworks, Fashion and Music: All Things 4th of July

“Land That I Love, Stand Beside Her, And Guide Her, Through The Night With The Light From Above.” ~God Bless America

low-angle-view-of-firework-display-over-river-during-sunset-604213021-57752e7b3df78cb62c11aba4

4th of July is all about celebrating our freedoms with family and friends. This is one of my favorite holidays. The reason for that is it is a day that makes me really go all out to celebrate the freedoms I am so grateful for and to celebrate with those I love makes it even more special.

So in honor of 4th of July, here are some of my all time essentials. In terms of skincare I always like give myself a hydrating, relaxing facial due to the fact that I will be out in the sun. It helps keep my skin hydrating and stress free. Before hand make sure your skin is nice and clean (I use Garnier’s Miscellar Water). This go around I used a new mask by Avatara Chill Out Face Mask from Target. It dripped a little bit when I first put it on, but overall I will be using it again and to make it extra relaxing, you can put it in the fridge (defintely works). Next comes moisture and SPF application for that much needed hydration and sun protection. Lately I have been using Yes To Grapefruit Even Skin Moisturizer, ELF Cosmetics Illuminating Eye Cream and Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 55 Sunscreen. Also for all over sun protection, I like to use Honest Company’s Sunscreen Spray (make sure to shake before application).

Let me tell you, I love them all so far and they don’t seem to be upsetting my sensitive skin, which is always a good thing. I am extra dilligent with this routine come 4th of July celebrations since it’s all about the sunshine. Also, water is the final key for hydrating on a sunshine filled day like July 4th. I usually am drinking from my Bando water bottle or SmartWater‘s sparkling water if I am craving some carbonation.

Now on to one of my favorite parts: attire and beauty. I have a tradition every 4th of July to pick up a fun new outfit and this year was no different. I went with camo and khaki from Target, which I am excited to rock on the day (stay tuned). I rock other favorite Patriotic ensembles leading up to Independence Day, here are a few options I have:

For makeup I usually add a pop of a red lip, sparkle and if feeling daring, I pop on some blue eyeshadow like this one MAC Cosmetics has to offer. My nails have always been such a fun way to try out new holiday designs. It is is either navy with sparkle, Chicago Cubs theme or like this year it is a fun twist with a set from imPress. This is another reason I love the 4th as well, it brings out my creative side.

Another must is busting out the decorations. I am loving these ones I got from Michael’s and Party City last year.

IMG_8728

If y’all are feeling crafty this year, check out these fun DIY decorations on Pinterest!

You can’t have all this fablousness without some fun activities to celebrate. There are so many fun options to celebrate from Disneyland, water sports, BBQ backyard games, the beach and of course checking out fireworks. This year I will be all about the beach by laying out with my cute sunnies and sun hat while eating great food. Some awesome options are corn on the cob to hot dogs to delicious cocktails, so be sure to check out Pinterest for some of these awesome recipes and others ! If you are in the mood for eating out, check out the local cities’ website for help navigating the great restaurants they have to offer. I will definitely be ending the celebration with an awesome fireworks show or two 🙂 I love them and they make me smile!

Del-Mar-Surfing-750x400

Everything is in order except for one thing, the soundtrack for this year’s Independence Day extravaganza. There are so many to choose from, how do I choose ? I am picking the ones that get me smiling and dancing all around. Lets kick it off with some classics first, God Bless America and The National Anthem followed by Zac Brown Band’s ‘Chicken Fried’ and ‘Castaway’. I will definitely have to bust out ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’ by JT as well as ‘Happy’ by Pharell. Last but not least ‘Uptown Funk’ by Bruno Mars because everyone likes some funk music to get the party started.

IndependenceDay.png

I saved the best for last, thanking all those that have given myself and everyone the freedom to be who we want to be, thank you from the bottom of my heart! Wishing y’all a safe and Happy 4th of July !

P.S. How do y’all like to celebrate the 4th of July ? I am all about the beach and sunshine 🙂

Hey Chicago Whatya Say

“Ability may get you to the top, but it takes character to keep you there.” ~ Ernie Banks, Mr. Cub

How do I put into words this past baseball season with my Chicago Cubbies ? Every time I have tried to I start being a ball of emotion. It has now been two months and a couple weeks since their World Series win and although I definitely am still an emotional ball of joy, I finally feel like I am wrapping my head around what happened on November 3rd, 2016 and the dates that led up to it.

With Spring Training just around the corner now is the perfect time to reflect. This was a day and event that my dad, myself and all Cubs fan will never forget. We are Cubs fans no matter and the Cubbies definitely did not suck !

The events leading up to the 2016 World Series began way before. It began before I was born, which is when it was decided I would be raised a Cubs fan. Both my parents are from Chicago, my mom likes the Cubs, but my dad is a diehard fan since he was 5  years old so being a Chicago Cubs fan is in my blood. You best believe I am proud of that.

cubbies-kids

It took the Cubs a while to get here, but the heart and working to get here never waviered. The struggles made us stronger, including 1945, 1984, 2008, the 101 loss season, and everything before and in between, but it all made 2016 that much sweeter, surreal and allow us to appreciate it that much more. We can truly now say the goat is dead !

Now the playoffs of 2016 were slowly approaching and the Cubs clinched a playoff berth in September with their 103 wins and now it was time to tackle the San Francisco Giants in the NLDS. It is a team that has been amazing in even years and the one that made me the most nervous, but the Cubbies didn’t let that phase them. Throughout this series there were moments where it was thought to be over like when were down, a 13-inning loss, which is one of the moments my dad and I felt a hit to our gut, but the Cubbies continued to battle back and advanced to the NLCS against the LA Dodgers.

w-flag-win-nlcs-champs

Here we were now in the NLCS, the series before the World Series, and it has been 8 years since the Cubs have been here. The 108 years since winning a World Series is  flashing before our eyes and I can feel it, it’s our time!

Growing up in LA as a Chicago Cubs fan was interesting, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. So we watched the Cubs face one of the best pitchers in Clayton Kershaw and lost, but the Cubs found a fire and fought back and killed it in Game 2. Chicago was electric around Wrigley Field and the bus came back from being down 3-1 and won the series. Guess what ? My dad and I got to hear the words, “The Cubs have one the National League Pennant and are going to the World Series!”

-W photo above here-

I watched this final game at home with my parents and to share in it with my parents and to share in it with them was a flood gates of emotion. To watch my dad watch the moment where the Cubs clinched the pennant to advance to the World Series, well it makes me cry tears of joy. It is a moment I will never forget and always cherish.

I still couldn’t believe I was sitting down with my dad to watch the Chicago Cubs take on the Cleveland Indians in the World Series. Something neither of us have ever seen, but dad has known more pain then I have with the Cubs. I do feel some of his though. Through out this series I think I soaked up his nerves because I was a wreck: screaming and pacing. This was still such an amazing time to watch the World Series between 2 teams that collectively have gone 168 years without a World Series win, which is crazy, but made for one heck of a World Series.

We watched at home, with fellow Chicago fans and at Rocco’s Tavern, all truly made for some spectacular moments. I could go on and on about the ups and downs of the World Series so I will touch on a few moments that stand out.

Lets start with Javier Baez stealing home in Game 1 . I think we all did a double take because it’s like who steals home in the World Series? Well Javier Baez of the Cubbies does and as Joe Maddon said , “That is true baseball instinct that cannot be taught.”

Then we have Grandpa Rossy’s homer in Game 7 that helped the Cubs move forward and ahead in the game. For his last game ever, he went out on top! I am a Grandpa Rossy fan for life.

cubbies-sequin-hat-in-newport

The Cubbies were leading the whole game and then there was moment in the 8th inning of Game 7 where Cubs fans ,including my dad and myself, felt like we all go punched in the stomach. That moment was when Rajai Davis hit a 3 run homer off one of the great closers, Aroldis Chapman, to tie the game. Chap and everyone came back and were able to shut the 9th inning down, but it felt like hope was dwindling. So I was at Rocco’s Tavern with my dad and friends and I went to the bathroom and said a prayer for the Cubs to find the strength and heart they have had all year to make this historic win happen. What happened next is a true miracle, the rain came tumbling down in Cleveland and usually it is the worst thing to happen to a game, but this may been the one time players and fans were thankful for it. Luckily the rain fall happened for only 10 minutes, but during that time Jason Heyward of the Chicago Cubs gave a speech to his team that relit the fire again to keep going and that they could make it all happen. Boy did that turn it around along with Ben Zobrist and Miguel Montero’s hits in the 10th to bring it home.

It is now the bottom of the 11th with Carl Edwards JR pitching 2 outs and Mike Montgomery is now on the mound with tying runs on base, nerves are in full swing. The ball gets hit to Kris Bryant who slips, but makes the throw at first to Anthony Rizzo, which he caught and the out was made. Anthony Rizzo making the catch and putting that ball in his pocket was more than meant to be considering he was with the Cubbies when they had 101 losses. The moment of all things amazing was real and it was true. the Cubs were and are the 2016 World Series Champs !!!!!!!

world-series-game-7-2016

I hugged my dad who was in a joyous state of shock and Go Cubs Go was everywhere along with the hugging of strangers. Life was and is forever changed because baseball is family and being a Chicago Cubs fan just got a little bit sweeter, actually a lot of bit sweeter!

w-cubs-world-champs-photo

All I have to say now is Hey Chicago Whatya Say ? The Cubs are World Series Champs today !!

Here is to the next season! We will be embracing the target !

~Kerry , Cubs Fan for Life

P.S. Loved seeing all the celebs out in support like Eddie Vetter, Bill Murray, Brett Eldridge and many more. Along with that record breaking Game 7 the victory parade in Chicago was amazing with a record breaking 5 million present and one we will never forget. Here is to the next one 🙂
